Restoring Proper Hormonal Imbalance Through Testosterone Therapy For Women

By Joshua Collins

Low T levels refer to a decrease in the amounts of testosterone. This is a health concern that also affects women although many people think that it's exclusive to males. Such hormone is found in a female's body, too, but in considerably smaller amounts. Still it is something that plays a variety of roles. This is the reason why there's testosterone therapy for women that health authorities are suggesting for the proper management of low T levels.

Aging is the one that can be blamed for low T levels among females. The manufacturing of the predominantly male hormone by the woman's body wanes off as she ages. Such is something that cannot be kept from striking just like any other issue that tends to come with the process of aging such as skin sagging, vision blurring and hair graying.

Hormones are regulatory substances the different glands produce. They get to various parts of the body by means of the circulation in order to direct how the cells and tissues should work. All sorts of issues can show up if the proper balance of hormones winds up in shambles as a result of certain processes, and aging is one of those.

However, it's not all the time that aging is the only one that's responsible for low T levels in a woman's body. In men, the testicles are the ones that manufacture and secrete testosterone. The ovaries, on the other hand, are those that are tasked at providing the said hormone among females. This is why undergoing hysterectomy, a surgical treatment that removes all or only some parts of a woman's uterus, can also be blamed for hormonal imbalance.

The predominantly male hormone isn't the only one that declines when a woman ages but estrogen, too. Many years ago, scientists thought that the different pesky signs and symptoms of being in the menopausal stage could only be due to estrogen depletion. This is why reestablishing optimum levels of the said female hormone used to be the norm in resolving the various signs and symptoms menopausal women complain about.

Eventually, scientists confirmed that a reduction in the male hormone is also partly to blame for everything that makes menopause a totally annoying stage in a woman's life. This is the reason why therapy that aims to establish optimum levels of the male hormone came into being. These days, more and more females are benefiting from such treatment, not only menopausal ones but also those that have undergone hysterectomy.

Unfortunately, such treatment not only comes with all kinds of benefits but also a few side effects. This isn't something that's shocking as side effects can be expected from just about any type of medical procedure. Swelling of some body parts, leg cramps, tenderness of the breasts, bloating, an upset stomach, nausea, headaches and mood swings are some of the commonly reported issues regarding the treatment.

Taking into consideration the pros and cons is important before a female decides to go though hormonal replacement procedures. If the negatives are outweighed by the positives, then having the treatment is a good idea. Some other solutions, otherwise, should be discussed with a doctor.
