The name of this article is "The 4-Letter Word Many Women Love, But Hate!" Now you may be thinking how can you love and hate something at the same time? Well the 4-letter word I am referring to is D-I-E-T! Now you may be thinking okay... I totally get that!
I have tried many diets and at best they gave me a short-term fix. That wasn't because the diet wasn't effective; it was because I focused on dieting instead of making long-term changes so that I could experience long-term transformation. I focused on improving myself on the outside but not on the inside. And I didn't understand how to maintain the weight loss after the diet ended.
I included love in this article as it relates to dieting, but often it is not actually the diet that we love. It is that inner feeling that we get when we first start a diet... and sometimes even before we start a diet. It is that feeling of accomplishment just thinking about how good we are going to feel and how sexy we are going to look. And it is the joy that comes from knowing that we are taking a HUGE step as it relates to living a healthier lifestyle.
But then hate can arise because dieting is not an easy task, especially a super restrictive one. Hate can also arise when we don't see the results we desire. And hate can also emerge after the diet has ended and the weight shows back up. So there you go... a look into the love-hate relationship as it relates to dieting.
It is important for you to focus on ways to not just lose the weight, but also ways to keep the weight off. The dieting part is just a small part of it. The bigger part is how do you ensure long- term success as it relates to weight loss? Dieting is only going to get you so far, but having the right mindset, developing healthier eating habits (for life), and consistently taking action leads to permanent transformation.
I don't know any woman who began a diet with the mindset that she is going to stay on it the rest of her life. That is why you must have after diet strategies as well. What are you going to do to keep the weight from showing back up on the scale? How are you going to handle yourself at family gatherings or when you go out to eat? How are you going to deal with stress? How are you going to handle emotional eating? That is why I said dieting is just a small part of it.
And if you are like me and just don't like the word "diet," then this might help you. Think of your diet as a short-term solution. Think of your diet as a way to get you going. And think of your diet as a tool to initiate your weight loss. Just a flip in the way you think about dieting can make a difference. Something else you can do is use a different word instead of "diet." You can use words like "healthier eating plan, or lifestyle change plan." Or say anything else that makes you feel more positive about the dieting experience.
Through writing this article it was my goal to inspire and empower women to think differently about dieting. And to help them understand exactly the role that dieting plays in the whole picture of being a weight success. As you move forward I hope that you feel more enlightened than you did before you read this article.
