Stop Screwing With Your Body

Unless you're opting for a dietary change that you can sustain for life, you're setting yourself up for fat gain and a lifetime of 'yo-yo' dieting.
Why does the weight always come back?
We're lead to believe that weight loss is all about calories in and calories out. The diet industry, by reinforcing this message, makes money by keeping you as a quick fix consumer. They know all too well that dieting doesn't work long term.
The brain controls hunger and energy use, specifically the hypothalamus. Now here's the kicker; the brain has its own set range on what it thinks you should weigh.
So if you're wishing you were 20kg lighter, you'll need to more than just think about it. If you've ever changed your eating or exercise habits you may have noticed that your weight loss/gain fluctuates anywhere between 4-7kg. This is your brains handy work.
It will allow you to move up and down in weight between that range because that is what it thinks you should weigh. If you really over consume over a long period of time it will allow you to go above this range, but very rarely will it allow you to go below.
Up until a few years ago I honestly thought that the body wanted to be lean. I would picture an athletic, muscular cave man chewing on a piece of raw meat whilst wrestling a lion, and think that all I had to do to achieve that was lift heavy weights, sprint and eat paleo - and find a lion to wrestle. Feed your body with everything it needs and it will reach that point of optimum health and vitality.
But then why are there still people doing all the right things and not losing weight? Why are people still overweight?
The brain is a master adaptor. Throughout our existence it has adapted to the environmental changes, including periods of food scarcity. Your set bodyweight range has developed as a safety net, an insurance policy designed to get you through times when finding food is difficult.
This is otherwise known as your 'starvation response'. Your body will go through powerful measures to keep you within its set range. If you lose weight, your brain reacts as if you were starving. It sends messages to your body to increase hunger signals and burn less energy - making sticking to a low calorie diet almost impossible.
Long term studies have shown that even after 7 years of dieting, your body will still try and go back to its set range. On the flip side, if you consume a high calorie diet, the set range will freely move higher. If, for example, your current range is between 90-94kg, a high calorie diet can increase your range to 94-98kg.
What can we do about it?
Set a goal - and be comfortable with it. Don't let the industry dictate to you who or what you need to look like. The truth is that you can be fat and healthy, and you don't need shredded abs to have a long and healthy life. In fact, studies show that those with a BMI of over 25 live the longest.
If you want to look like a cover model, you're going to have to work HARD. You need to get in touch with someone who knows how to get results - in exchange they'll want a good amount of money. If you just want to feel more comfortable in your clothes, or look good naked or on the beach, you won't have to give up your whole life.
In my eBook The Ultimate Body Plan, I explain easy, product and cost free ways to achieve this. There's no calorie counting or dieting, just proven systems that will set you up for will power free success.
Stop dieting - for good. 'Controlled eaters' are those people who count calories and jump from diet plan to diet plan. These types of people are more susceptible to over eating; eating one square of chocolate is much more likely to lead to a binge for them rather than for someone who has taken control of their habits.
Controlled eaters are also easily led by advertising and marketing, making them the perfect prey for supermarkets and Herbalife/Juice Plus reps. Importantly, let's not forget that the more you diet, the more fat you'll gain long term.
Build habits - for long term success. The reality is that the outcome of most diets is that you'll come out fatter on the other side. Building lifelong habits and having systems that set you up for success is the key. In my book I provide 30 lifestyle habits that can be implemented into everyone's schedule, no matter how busy.
Eat mindfully - and listen to your body. Your body becomes sensitive when either hungry or full. Eat and make food choice decisions without distraction. Eat food that makes you feel good, tastes good and that you can envision eating long term.
Prevent weight gain - by building a great relationship with your body and its nutrition. Preventing weight gain will be a lot more successful than trying to lose weight.
